ILS Launches Nimiq 5 Into Space
CCI and International Launch Services (ILS) produced another successful live broadcast of the 54th Proton launch with the Nimiq 5 satellite on board. The launch took place Sept. 18th at 1:19AM from Baikonur, Kazakhstan. That is Sept. 17th at 3:19PM in the East Coast of the US.
News Anchor, Marla Weech and Subject Matter Expert, John Palmé provided updates from the ILS Anchor Desk at CCI’s studios in Cape Canaveral. John is Deputy Vice President for Mission Assurance at ILS. It was his fourth time to provide updates for the broadcast.
The Nimiq 5 satellite will provide direct to home and high-definition television services across Canada and the Continental United States. The satellite manufacturer is Space Systems/Loral of Palo Alto, California. The satellite operator is Telesat based in Canada.
The next Proton launch is set for mid-November.
